What is date of admission on Form I-90?

Date of Admission Explained

Date of Admission (in Part 1, Question 15 of Form I-90) is the date that USCIS granted you permanent resident or conditional permanent resident status. Be careful – Date of Admission is not necessarily the same date you entered the United States.

In many cases, you may be granted status before you entered or visa versa. For example, the U.S. embassy will generally approved an immigrant visa (permanent resident status) at the interview. The immigrant may not enter the United States for several more weeks. On the other hand, an adjustment of status applicant may have already been inside the United States for a couple of years before being granted a green card. In this way, the date of admission is often different than the date one enters the country.

Where to Find Date of Admission

You can easily find the Date of Admission on the front side of your green card. The date is near the bottom next to “Resident Since.” For example, “08/21/07” would be the Date of Admission for the green card holder shown in the image below. The location on the card has changed over time. You may find the date in a different place on older cards. For examples of more types of green cards, use CitizenPath to prepare Form I-90.
